10 Heshvan 5773
Tonight and Tomorrow (11 Heshvan) is the Hiloula/Yahrzeit of Rahel Imenou!! BH Daven in her zekhout at Hadlakat Nerot!
Rahel Imenou is known to be able to arouse the Mercy of HaKadosh Barukh Hu in order protect her children. Rahel Imenou sheds tears and cries for them, pleading on their behalf. She is the mother of Kelal Yisrael.
The Navi Yeshayahu says about her, Kol BeRamah Nishma, Rahel Mevakah al Baneiha Ki Eneno—a voice is heard on High, Rahel cries over her sons since they are not there. HaShem comforts her and says Meni'i Kolekh Mi Bekhi veEynaikh miDima'a, Ki Yesh Sekhar lePeulatekh….VeShavu Banim leGevulam—stop your voice from crying and your eyes from tears, for there is a reward for your actions….your sons will return home. We read this as the Haftarah on Rosh HaShanah since is the Day of Remembrance and on this very day, the Torah HaKedoshah tells us that HaKadosh Barukh Hu 'remembered' Rahel and blessed her with a child.
Rahel now becomes a mother. She is also the mother of all of Kelal Yisrael. The gematriya of the word 'Em' (mother) is 41. This is the same gematriya of Rosh HaShanah, the day HaShem made her a mother, which equals 861. Huh? Take the sum of all the numbers from 1 to 41 and we get none other than 861. It gets even better. The Yahrzeit of Rahel Imenou is on Yod Alef (11) of Heshvan. Count the days, its exactly 41 days from Rosh HaShanah. Amazing.
But wait, there's more.
The gematriya of Rahel is 238. She cries for us with tears-- the gematriya of dima'ah (tear) is 119. But she cries two tears for us (this also corresponds to one for each day of Rosh HaShanah). Now, 119 times two is….238! Rahel Imenou is there in front of HaShem Himself and crying for each and every one of us. She is our loving mother and continues to daven for us. In the zekhout of her Tefillot, may HaKadosh Barukh Hu grant us our Tefillot leTova uleBerakhah and may we merit to go back Home to Yerushalayim Ir HaKodesh with the coming of Mashiah Sidkenu beKarov, Amen!
Just so you know, on what merit is Rahel Imenou able to bring such Mercy in this world? Because when she saw that she was getting married to Yaakov Avinu, one of the world's greatest Sadikim, and her sister Leah Imenou would be marrying Esav the rasha, she immediately gave it all up and decided to let Leah take Yaakov instead and agreed to be marrying Esav instead if she had to (BH that she didn't!). She even gave the signs between her and Yaakov Avinu for the wedding night to Leah so that her sister would not be embarrassed. When one is able to give from themselves on such a level, they most definitely can merit to become an advocate for the entire Kelal Yisrael and bring HaShem's Mercy upon them. May we take a lesson from our beloved Mother and strive to be the same!
